Intersport Whyalla has been recognised as the Whyalla Chamber of Commerce and Industry business of the month for March 2016.
Owner Garry Taylor said the award shows that the business strives for better customer service.
“The staff are implementing things we have discussed and doing a good job of serving the public which is what we look for,” Mr Taylor said.
“We always try to make sure we’re keeping up with everyday trends and that we’ve got things here when people want them, that’s important.”
“We make sure we cater for everyone’s needs so they don’t have to go elsewhere for it.”
Mr Taylor said Intersport aims to provide products for a wide range of sports.
“Being a small country town we try to encompass just about every sport going, we do try and be that one stop shop,” he said.
Mr Taylor first purchased the store 10 years ago under the name GT’s Premier Sports, then made the switch to Intersport 18 months ago as part of buying chain.
The Intersport store was established in September, and Mr Taylor says the name change has been a welcome one.
“No doubt, it’s the largest sporting chain in the world and to be part of that obviously has its benefits,” he said.
The store also had to move location within the shopping centre from the old GO-LO building into a area next to Coles.
“It’s been a big 12-18 months going between locations, it’s been a pretty tough grind but I’m proud of what we’ve done and we’re fairly happy with the way the new store has come up,” Mr Taylor said.
“I think having a bit more foot traffic with Coles certainly helps and being a bit more central in the mall.”
Mr Taylor said big things were on the horizon for Intersport.
“The store is relatively new, we’re still striving to add the finishing touches to where we’re at right now, and there is a few other things we’re looking at implementing,” he said.
