Awarded at the Business of the Year awards, apprentices, trainees and employers of choice are acknowledged for thier fantastic contribution to Whyalla’s workforce and economic development.

The Contribution to Tourism Award, aims to recognise and promote the outstanding achievements and success of individuals and businesses. Honouring those who go over and above to contribute to Whyalla’s tourism industry.

Judges consider the activities and contribution the individual or business have made to the local tourism sector and to the region in general.

Taking into account standout achievements in the ongoing promotion and celebration of Whyalla. Identifying dedicated and innovative individuals and businesses who are building strong foundations for Whyalla’s success.

Apprentice of the Year Award
The apprentice of the year award is open to all apprentices in Whyalla from any vocation. Judging takes into account the apprentices potential career aspirations, their goals and ambitions, commitment to work, technical development, and postitve attitude towards business success.

Trainee of the Year Award
This award is open to all trainees in Whyalla from any vocation, who had completed at least four months of their traineeship during 2022/2023.

Judging takes into account the trainee’s potential career aspirations, their goals and ambitions, commitment to work, technical development, and positive attitude towards business success.

Employer of the Year Award
This award recognises those businesses who show leadership in sound organisational processes and provide valuable mentoring and development opportunities for their staff.

Niven Boyd Memorial Award
The Niven Boyd Memorial Award for the most popular retail employee has been voted on by the community for their favourite Whyalla local who provides excellent customer service.

The award is a memorial award dedicated to the late Niven Boyd who absolutely lived for his chosen profession of commercial radio, and was so passionate about his community.

This award is indeed a fitting tribute to Niven.
