Awarded for excellence

Mirambeena Motel was named business of the month for June by Whyalla’s Chamber of Commerce.

Owner/manager Sue Beames has owned the motel for about eight and a half years and said she was thrilled to have won the award. Ms Beames has spent the past 25 years in the hospitality sector and said she was still enjoying every moment of it.

“It’s very humbling to be awarded business of the month,” she said. “I’d like to thank all of our customers for their support.”

Ms Beams said the motel employed about 15 staff who were dedicated to meeting the needs of their customers.

Mirambeena Motel was purchased by Mrs Beames and Stephen Edwards in early 2006.

Sue and Stephen began an internal renovation of the motel in February, 2007 and finally in June of that year, after an initial $400,000 spent on the refurbishment, they proudly opened the reborn Mirambeena Motel.

Since then, over the years they have continued with rebuilding and new building of motel units, originally starting with 38 rooms.

They now boast 58 rooms on site and a further 60 rooms off site at the Legends estate, all of the off-site rooms are ensuited and are laid out as three bedroom villas with self-catering available.
