Mitre 10 has claimed the title of Whyalla Chamber of Commerce and Industry business of the month for January 2016.
The business, owned by Pat Walker, provides residents with access to a wide range of hardware products.
Mr Walker said the award was a testament to the hard work done by the staff.
“I’m very proud of the staff who deserve this award more so than myself,” he said.
“I couldn’t do it without them, they’re an incredible bunch of people.”
Mr Walker works in between the Mitre 10 Trade store on Keith street and at the new Mitre 10 store on McDouall Stuart Avenue (formerly Bob’s Home Hardware), meaning the award was a team effort.
“I’m hardly here, so these guys just run the ship by themselves and do a tremendous job,” he said.
“This is true recognition for what they do as a team.”
Having to work between two stores makes Mr Walker a busy man, but he said he still enjoyed the challenge.
“It’s crazy but I enjoy it, absolutely enjoy it,” he said.
Mr Walker said there were several traits shared by staff which helped earn the business of the month award.
“The way the guys interact with each other, the passion for their job, the tremendous skill level each one of them has got, and just the way they fulfill their roles.”
Mr Walker purchased the original store 11 years ago, and bought the building formerly used as Bob’s Home Hardware in August last year.
