Sundowner Hotel Motel has accepted the first Whyalla Chamber of Commerce and Industry business of the month award for the new year.
Sundowner managers Fred and Verity Wyld said they aimed to provide “friendly” service from the moment a customer walked in the door.
“We endeavour to greet and farewell every customer that enters the business,” Mrs Wyld said.
“It sounds like a cliche‚ but we endeavour to provide that friendly, country hospitality.”
Mrs Wyld said the award was “fantastic” recognition for all of its staff’s efforts.
Whyalla Chamber of Commerce and Industry executive committee member Heidi Freeman presented the award and said it recognised consistent quality service.
“It’s based on their customer service and the quality of their service throughout all of their staff, right through from reception all the way to accommodation and meals,” she said.
Mrs Wyld said being selected from nominations received from the public was a “nice tick from customers” that recognise the service.
“We understand that people spend money for an experience at the motel and we try to provide that enjoyable experience from the minute they walk in the door through to how they are approached in the bars, to their food service and also accommodation,” she said.
“Everyone is involved in providing that service to the customer.
” Mrs Wyld said everyone, from the managers to the house-keeping and back of house staff, aimed to deliver an enjoyable experience to its patrons.
“We recognise that a lot of visitors to the business will be new visitors to Whyalla so capitalising on the opportunity to capture a new customer as they walk through the door is paramount to generating return business,” she said.
Mr and Mrs Wyld have managed the Sundowner for the past 18 months and said they looked forward to greeting and farewelling customers throughout 2015.
“We’ll keep things fresh and exciting,” Mrs Wyld said. “We’ve got some exciting things in the bistro with some new menus coming through.”
