Call out for CY26 Apprentices across Mining and Steel
19 June 2025
We are continuing our support for the Whyalla community with our call for local apprentices, starting 2026, at the steelworks and iron ore mining operations in multiple disciplines.
The upcoming intake will include the below disciplines:
Mechanical Fitter
Machinist
Refractory (Bricklaying)
Saw Doctor
Fabrication
Electrician
Instrumentation Fitter
As a valued OSM employee we are asking you to consider anyone you may know (family, friends or associates) who may be eligible and interested in one of these apprenticeships.
This is real work with real outcomes for local school students and those already in the workforce and now seeking a trade. It’s a chance to earn while you learn, gain formal trade qualifications while getting invaluable exposure to our iconic manufacturing and mining business without disruption to family, social, sporting and community life.
Applicants must either be completing Year 11 this year and on track to achieve a high school certification to qualify as a school-based apprentice, or have already completed Year 11 and possess a minimum of 12 months of work experience to be eligible to apply. Applications are also welcome from mature workers looking to kick start a new career in mining and manufacturing with a four-year fixed-term contract.
If you know of anyone, or can recommend anyone who may be interested and suitable for any of these opportunities, please have them apply via either of the below links:
