Well Folks, what a way to start a new season of Business of the Month with a local company steeped in Whyalla history. Specialised Tyre and Rubber Repairs was first established way back in 1970 and was then known as Tyre-Lug; being predominately created to service the then BHP. Come forward to 2003 and new owners Tim and Debbie Connors took over the reins and like many Whyalla businesses they are a family company. Their two daughters concentrate with the office demands whilst Tim and Debbie’s son in law manages the factory here in Whyalla. But of course, with Tim having over 50 years in the trade he’s always there to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Specialised has a focus on delivering supply and repairs to heavy industry, earth moving, and the mining sector. What really sets out their commitment to their customers is an honest approach to repairing before replacing. Whilst there is an industry standard towards ‘NWR’ (not worth repairing), Specialised can use their experience and knowledge to safely repair and return many tyres to equipment to last many more years. Considering a single tyre can be upwards of $30k, it’s confidence to know that Specialised have the team and equipment for huge cost savings. They employ approximately 15 people across 3 locations including Roxby Downs and Adelaide whilst Whyalla is their headquarters.
They have 3 service trucks which are all site certified to comply with areas they deliver their services. Not to compromise safety or credibility Specialised only use known and tested tyres from manufactures such as Maxxis, Hifly, Bridgestone, Cooper, BFG, and Haulmax. And whilst the business is known for industry, they are also committed to supplying tyres to cars, FWD’s, and trucks.
Tim and his family are proud business owners and are well known for their support to local clubs. They employ locals and will also use local employment companies to search extra staff when required. Well done Specialised Tyre and Rubber Repairs; you are a real Whyalla story…
