Congratulations to the December 2023 Business of the Month; The Fragrance Hall

It’s nearly Christmas so let’s do a super congratulations to The Fragrance Hall for being Business of the Month for December. Meeting Michelle in her shop was a pure delight and straight away we knew this was someone that is indeed a business owner that just loves what she does. She’s combined what was a past time, a hobby, and a passion and turned that into a business that she is proud of.

The Fragrance Hall has been operating at Westlands Shopping Centre for six years and has become to be known for all its beautiful items and gifts. On offer is a range of things like scented candles, soaps and lotions, artificial flowers that actually feel authentic, scarves and hats, jewellery, gift baskets, and a lot lot more. Little people aren’t forgotten as there is a considerable range of items to keep them happy and also Vegan friendly body and hand wash. In fact, Michelle reminded me that she thoroughly researches and investigates all her items for being from sustainable and animal friendly suppliers.

Don’t forget when you pop into the shop to look up at the beautiful lights and lamps available. These are exquisitely hand-blown glass which means they don’t have a seam and every one of them will have its own personality.

Michelle and her small team are proud Whyalla people and offer something for everyone. For the guys that find it hard to shop for their partners this is the place to visit. All your gifts can come from this one stop destination. Congratulations Michelle, you are providing a valued service to the Whyalla community and beyond…

Please remember, shop local, shop Whyalla…

Congratulations to the November 2023 Business of the Month; Strandbags Whyalla

After a very successful awards dinner in October, lets start off our next season of Business of the Month with Strandbags Whyalla. The go to shop in Whyalla for all your luggage, handbags, and travel requirements to say the least.

Strandbags was founded back in 1927, and yes to our younger supporters that was last century… They have grown to become a National business that all Australians know. And, besides their online store, they also have 300 physical stores across our country and New Zealand. Their products are seamlessly vast and cover all brand names as well as the very affordable.

Keeping in line with the ever-changing retail environment, the company offers an excellent loyalty program which provides great discounts and click and collect is an option for those wishing to do online shopping. Gift cards are available for those hard to buy for and zip pay means a purchased item can be paid off over time.

Whilst WB&T is biased towards promoting home grown Whyalla interests; on this occasion we’d like to think it’s the five locals that are the friendly faces that people are greeted by that support the Strandbags success. Headed up by the very friendly and professional Dobrila Krstic as store manager, we can see why Strandbags has been so successful here in Whyalla. In fact, Dobrila has been a foundational employee within only a few months of Standbags first coming here twelve years ago so that is a hint of good management for keeping valued staff.

My advice is to keep an eye out this week as Black Friday sales are looming, I’m sure Strandbags Whyalla will be busy.

Please remember, shop local, shop Whyalla…

Congratulations to the September 2023 Business of the Month; Summit Electrical Management and Automation…

What a way to end this year’s business of the month awards with another inspirational Whyalla business. We met with Matt and Mel from Summit Electrical and were again presented with proud business owners making Whyalla their location of choice. Although Summit Electrical Management and Automation is a relatively young company being established in 2020, they certainly have built a rapport with their clientele as being reliable and precise.

Summit Electrical specialise in supplying the electrical needs to all facets of residential, commercial, and industrial requirements. This could be something like an upgrade to your old household switchboard, a complete rewire, a check of your RCD or fire alarm, or even a complete start to finish in a new home. Their commercial and industrial services are very comprehensive but also include general maintenance to relieve company owners of that commitment.

Also offered and specialised in is the ever-changing world of automation. This technology allows the owner to remotely control lighting, it can send you alerts if someone enters the house or if you’ve forgotten to shut and lock the shed door. But how this; it can even control motorised blinds to respond to sunlight and glare making for greater comfort without the hassle.

The guys at Summit are trained and accredited Master Electricians which means you’ll be providing with the utmost quality of standards. To quote Mel, she explained their personal and company ethos to be ‘We turn up on time, every time. We strive for excellence in service, communication, and providing customers with a five-star service’.

Congratulations to Summit Electrical Management and Automation, and thankyou for choosing Whyalla as your home.

Please remember, shop local, shop Whyalla…

Congratulations to the August 2023 Business of the Month; Mine Spec Industries…

Straight out from meeting the owners of Mine Spec, I was impressed about how passionate they are about their business but also just as much about Whyalla. Jason and Stefanie Tatchell are inspiring and dedicated people who like to talk about how positive the future is for both business and employment in Whyalla.

Mine Spec Industries (MSI) has been operating since 2014 but that’s not entirely where it all started. Jason has been working in the hire, maintenance, and transport industry since a young age after starting his apprenticeship with MJ Sherrin Plant Hire in 1990 and has gained extensive experience ever since. Stef started her career in the hire industry in 2007, however she came with her own extensive experience in the Industrial and Material Handling roles having worked at the Steelworks. Together, they have over 50 years of experience between them to show just how capable they are.

MSI is encouraged to have long term contracts and work agreements and can be considered a foundational company that is dedicated to staying in Whyalla. They currently employ 6 local people but are hoping to expand on this with their recent purchase of another property on McBryde Terrace. The new property will offer a larger office and workshop capacity to deliver on their ever-growing clientele.

In keeping with the community spirit, MSI support local suppliers and providers and return what they can back into Whyalla. They are proud sponsors of local community and sporting groups who they consider to be the volunteers that hold communities together.

In Jason and Stef’s words, ‘We’re in Whyalla for the long haul, and we’re so very happy to be a part of such an energetic and thriving City. Can’t wait for what the next few years bring’!

Please remember, shop local, shop Whyalla…

Congratulations to the July 2023 Business of the Month; Whyalla Conveyancers…

Celebrating this month’s recipient is a well-known family business due to hit their 50 years of service this year. As one of the first established professional firms in Whyalla, Whyalla Conveyancers have experienced many highs and lows within the Real Estate Industry. Whyalla especially has been through its fair share of peaks and troughs during this time.

While servicing Whyalla from their local office in the main street Heather and her team have seen the people of Whyalla not only survive but flourish. As quiet achievers Whyalla Conveyancers have had the opportunity of settling almost every home and property in Whyalla and personally meeting and getting to know many residents and investors from Whyalla and surrounding areas.

The team at Whyalla Conveyancers are known to take the stress out of selling, purchasing or transferring properties.

Due to their array of skills and degrees a full list of services can be found on their website.

In Heathers words; It has been such a privilege to have employed so many fine local people over these years because Whyalla Conveyancers would not be what it is today if it wasn’t for all their hard work and dedication in helping majority of our Whyalla Residents ease through one of the most stressful times in their lives.

We thankyou for your dedication to Whyalla and understanding the importance of having a ‘walk in clinic’ to have the fine print better explained to us or for us to bounce all possible options around without judgement at such delicate times of our lives. A very worthy winner.

https://www.whyallaconveyancers.com.au

Do you know another business who is deserving of a Business Of The Month Award?

Head to the Whyalla Business and Tourism website and nominate them today https://www.wbat.org.au/business-of-the-month/

Congratulations to the June 2023 Business of the Month; Sundowner Hotel…

Everybody loves to spend some time at their own special local. And that’s where the Sundowner excels in their patronage by providing Whyalla a go to place to enjoy a social experience amongst friends and family.

Under the same owners since 2002, the Barreau Hotel Group have managed to give everything a city hotel has in a place but with a country feel. Distinctively created, the hotel layout provides each area with its own privacy. The sports bar to the front, a quiet area to play the pokies, to the open ambience of the restaurant, and even an outdoor area to enjoy some of Whyalla’s fantastic weather. The restaurant menu is comprehensive and won’t leave anyone without choice and as I’m a keen lover of a good burger I can thankfully advise they are excellent.

Whilst locals celebrate the success of the Sundowner, its also worthy to note that the Motel plays an important part to the tourism and business sectors by offering pleasant, clean, and affordable accommodation.

The performance of the hotel can be directly linked to approximately 65 employees that boast they are locals and know most visitors by first name. Currently managed by the ever smiling Stephen Firth the Sundowner also has some very long term workers including Lorraine Mord who will help you enjoy the visit. So, when the sun is going down and shining on the Windmill, you’ll be more than comfortable enjoying a cold beer and nice food at the Sundowner,

Congratulations…

Please remember, shop local, shop Whyalla…

Congratulations to the May 2023 Business of the Month; Eyre Trading Whyalla…

Celebrating this month’s recipient is a well known business on the Eyre Peninsula and has been for many years; since the 1960’s in fact. Eyre Trading is a stalwart of what can be considered a very successful business starting out with primarily a family involvement. Keeping it in the family Danny Bartlett and his wife Marie eventually took over the reins in 2015 and wanted to progress the business further outside the surrounds of Port Lincoln.

Eyre Trading Whyalla opened the doors in 2017 and has made its mark immediately in our community by supplying our local industries including our mining and steel making. They are an industrial supplier having a vast range of products in stock including hand and power tools, machinery, consumables, welding equipment, workwear, and the list goes on and on. But also keeping within the spirit of the business legacy, they are also a welcomed supplier to trades people, the home handy person or contractors of any workplace. Whilst the Whyalla store has complimented the Port Lincoln store they were very pleased to open another in Port Pirie last year which has shown further confidence in the Upper Spencer Gulf.

The team at Whyalla are all locals which provides that friendly greeting as you enter. They are all confident salespeople that know their products and will always find what you need to complete your job. Another thing I’m impressed with is the ingrained ethos that if Eyre Trading doesn’t have a product in stock, they’ll definitely make the effort to get it whilst maintaining clear communication. There is also a casual ambience that allows you to look around and not be given the hard sell which is pleasant in regional living.

The team of Eyre Trading can be found at 27 Playford Avenue, or you can contact them on 8620 8552.

Please remember, shop local, shop Whyalla…

Well it’s no surprise that Aprils Business of the Month winner is Blended Cafe, Whyalla

The café operates 7 days a week located on Forsyth Street offering a range of breakfast solutions, light meals, coffees, homemade cakes and cookies. You may have seen the mobile van at local events offering that same friendly service and strong coffee fix. If running the café wasn’t enough the owners Shane and Ashlie also set up camp ready for a 6.30am starts at the GFG administration carpark during the work week and offer an all-day coffee fix at the netball courts on Saturdays.

Blended has secured jobs for 10 local employees and are growing with current positions available to join their highly motivated team. They are heavily involved in supporting and sponsoring multiple clubs both financially and with their volunteer efforts.

With an impressive catering truck due to arrive in the coming months, Blended is excited to hit the road and service Whyalla and surrounds.

This family of 5 are also huge supporters of the student exchange Australia & New Zealand program with a 15 year old from France currently in tow for the next 3 months. They intend on promoting all things Whyalla for him to return home with lasting memories of our great city.

We are excited to see what’s next in store for these guys and welcome them to the City Plaza to stay.

Please remember, shop local, shop Whyalla…

Congratulations to the March 2023 Business of the Month; Sims Movement…

What a worthy recipient we have awarded this month. After researching Sims Movement and its followers I had a good feeling we were going to be inspired. From meeting Tara and some of her team, I realised I had underestimated just how incredibly positive the visit was going to be. Tara has an aroura of positivity and with a belief in herself that provides exactly what it takes to help people on their fitness and wellbeing journey.

Sims Movement has been operating now for six successful years. Tara started out providing personal training to her customers but soon broadened and value added to the requirements of her clientele. Sims now offers Pilates and Yoga to their line-up, and don’t worry about your level of fitness or agility as everyone is welcomed and provided expert advice on how they should start their fitness experience. There is also a very exciting program for Mum’s called Pregnancy Pilates, or ‘Mamma Latte’s’ that is aimed at before and after pregnancy. The intimacy of small classes at the Sims studio on Patterson Street provides a calm environment and Tara and the team also provide outdoor classes for those wishing to take in our great environment.

There are six other instructors, Christie, Emily, Kseniya, Caitlyn, Stacey and Haylee that also provide professional assistance to the business and when I chatted with a few of them about how they go to know Tara, there were moments of emotion. Dedicated people working in something they enjoy and with a person they respect was my observation. And because Tara is also a busy Mum herself, a big shout out to her husband that is also behind the scenes in many ways.

To get in touch or book a session with Tara and Sims Movement, you can check out her contact details on the website, Facebook, or their own very well-developed app.

Please remember, shop local, shop Whyalla…
