We even had a couple of staff members return to the store just to be with Ian when we arrived with the award. A strong showing of what I can see to be a proud place to work.

Businesses will be individually supported to develop 3 specific templates to provide a professional representation of their capability. The concept centres on providing hands-on professional business development support as you work through the templates. It will also provide feedback and analysis on your market fit and offering.

THE THREE DOCUMENTS ARE:

• A QUAD chart – to effectively provide a one-page overview of the existing capability of your business.
• A capability statement – detailing the capability of each section of your business, your applicable quality standards and other key details.
• A SWOT analysis – detailing opportunities, threats, weaknesses and strengths to provide a whole-of business oversight document and to enable each business to then segment their market and clients.

PART 2 – THE VIRTUAL SHOP FRONT PR0GRAM

This part of the program will provide an opportunity to develop a 30 second business introduction video, which you can then use when you pitch for work, and promote across your media channels such as your website and social media.

YOUR COMMITMENT

There is no cost for your involvement in the ‘Best Bid’ template development, and a co funding contribution of $500 + GST to the development and delivery of the ‘Virtual Shop front’ promotional video.

It is anticipated that the hands-on business assistance to develop the templates will be between 8-10 hours of your time, with a further 2-3 hours for the shooting and development of the video.

Wow what a great business to be awarded this month and a great asset to Whyalla. We met a very humble and somewhat busy Sharon today as she tendered her customers.

Beyond the Hanger is a clothing business providing something for everyone. It covers all shapes and sizes and prides itself on being able to cater for almost anything you could need. From casual to formal its all there, and if you need something different just ask Sharon and she’ll provide that personal service to help out.

Let’s not stop there, because there’s also a great selection of clothes for toddlers and children and the guys aren’t forgotten either. A good selection of shoes and some finishing touches to your outfit can be topped off with necklaces, broaches, and handbags.

And why ‘Beyond the Hanger’, well as Sharon explains, ‘it gives customers a personal experience. They can select an item, try it on in our change rooms and if that’s not quite right, well try another’. I personally think it goes a bit further as from my experience I felt very comfortable in the shop and there was no rush to choose and nor did I feel I was being crowded. Sharon can pride herself in giving the Whyalla community a shopping experience in a pleasant surrounding without pressure and supplying just good old-fashioned service.

With Beyond the Hanger’s ongoing success and Sharon listening to her customer’s needs, she’s acquired the building next door to her Forsyth St shop. This will be more directed to the fashionable men in town and then allow for an even more selection of women’s clothes in her current location.

What a heartfelt visit to this month’s winner; Alicia. As soon as you walk into her shop, you’ll be amazed by all the colours and ambience that only a place with flowers can do. And this being her new address on Essington Lewis Avenue, Alicia has been able to decorate and display her products exactly how she’s visioned.

Flowers by Alicia has something for everyone, be it everyday arrangements for your home or that special someone, or maybe a bunch you can take as a memorial or for a celebration of life. All seasonal flowers are available as the year goes by and some fantastic arrangements of our very own natives not to be forgotten. Alicia’s business isn’t just about flowers though, as she also offers body care products, home fragrances, and plush toys. All of which can be added to a flower arrangement or purchased on their own. There’s even a wood engraving service that compliments gifts such as chopping boards, keepsake boxes, or even wedding displays.

Alicia has been in business for 10 years now and is complimented by an energetic apprentice and four other staff that have also been an asset to her success. But the team doesn’t stop there as it swells during ‘Mother’s Day’ with family and friends helping to get everything delivered on time.

What I learnt is that an arrangement of flowers isn’t just putting them into a vase. It’s about having a vision, an artistic flair for design, and a finishing product that shows how much you love your job as Alicia does.

How incredibly nice it was to meet Dene and Tracy from StaySafe Training who are the recipients of July’ Business of the Month. Straight away from our discussion I got to realise just how passionate they are in providing the best training they can combined with safety that is taught not be compromised.

StaySafe Training provides the necessary skills to be involved in industries around Whyalla and the Regions including everything in Transport, Construction, Marine, Oil and Gas. They limit their classes to small groups to be able to provide a close and personal experience. And, if you were thinking that you might need more than one course, well they also offer packages and course bundles.

Whilst being very humble for being selected this month, Dene and Tracy made it very clear that StaySafe Training wouldn’t be what it was without the magnificent staff of twelve they currently employ. A very close and family spirited business it is. And while on this, StaySafe Training is a very motivated contributor to local charities and events throughout the community but one of their biggest contributions each Christmas is their light display and shouldn’t be missed by anyone.

It was a pleasure to meet Tim Gilbert from CodeMash this week and present the good news of his company being Business of the Month for June. Almost the reluctant winner this month as it took a moment for the news to sink in and for Tim to realise how nice it was that one of his clients had nominated him.

CodeMash is a business supplying clients core services such as building, maintaining & updating websites, managing social media, website hosting & registering domain names. And, to compliment CodeMash, Tim’s partner Skai provides photography and graphic design.

In the strength of both Tim and Skai they’ve shown you don’t have to be big city based or fixed to a single location, which is underpinned by their large client base not only in Whyalla but Australia wide. They build websites for all industries, businesses and organisations.

So how did it all start? ‘Well’, Tim said, ‘I’ve always had a passion for IT and the internet’. ‘At the age of 16 I showed my primary school IT teacher how to build a web page; it’s always been something I’ve been comfortable with’.

After leaving school Tim worked in retail in Adelaide before returning to Whyalla and spending some time in he mining sector. But the lure of being involved in the internet industry was his real calling and he proudly opened CodeMash for business a few years ago.

A lot of us don’t have the time nor the expertise when it comes to promoting or maintaining our business profile, so that’s where Tim and CodeMash come to the call. Reach out to Tim and I’m sure you’ll be satisfied with what he can do which is evidenced by the reviews on his own website.
